It is becoming increasingly clear that the year 2025 will be the year de a new generation of AirTag, that little device that Apple launched a few years ago that allows you to track objects. Over the years there have been many rumors about future updates. However, it seems that until now there was no set plan about what new features would be included at the hardware level. The latest information assures that the AirTag 2 will carry the U2 chip which will allow multiply by three the scope by which we can locate it with our devices. And this will be the main novelty of this second generation.
More range for AirTag 2 with the U2 chip
Mark Gurman, the Bloomberg analyst, is clear about it: AirTag 2 will arrive in 2025. They will arrive by the hand of the U2 chip which uses Ultra Wideband technology that allows for more accurate localization of the new devices from the Big Apple. In fact, it is the same chip that all iPhones carry from the iPhone 15 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2. In fact, Apple has assured that this U2 chip detects three times more range than the first generation.
This would mean that the AirTag 2 would be detectable at three times further distance than the first generation and could be found more exhaustively in more complicated situations, just as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 do thanks to the precise search that allows devices to be located up to 60 meters.
In terms of design level, The small product with its minimalist design will not have any major new features since the current design has no possible major changes. Apple's goal is Maintain the exterior and improve the interior ensuring new features, greater range and improving the lives of users. And that is exactly what the AirTag 2 will do.
