The Apple TV despite being a little announced device for the Big Apple, maintains its sales and allows having an Apple ecosystem within a television. Thanks to tvOS we can see access to a multitude of multimedia content from different streaming services, as well as user content stored in the Apple ID. In addition, in tvOS 17 the function of make video calls thanks to the camera of our iPhone or iPad. However, A new rumor suggests that Apple could be thinking about incorporating a camera into the Apple TV with which to control tvOS with gestures as well as make video calls.
A camera on Apple TV: gestures, video calls, applications...
One of the things that caught the most attention in tvOS 17 when it was presented at WWDC23 was the FaceTime integration in tvOS with which to make video calls. The camera? That of our iPhone or iPad that, through a support, could be placed so that it was the camera with which we would transmit in FaceTime.
However, Mark Gurman announced yesterday in his sunday bulletin which Apple could be thinking about adding a camera to the Apple TV. And it might make some sense after adding the FaceTime app. Although Gurman has not said anything about the hardware, it is true that he introduces this tagline:
Apple TV with camera would support gesture-based controls
This gesture control could be done through multiple technologies. However, A camera would allow you to make video calls, control tvOS as well as open a world of possibilities to developers and turn Apple TV into Apple's new video game console with which users could play and control the game with their body thanks to the integrated camera.
Gurman has not given more details on this matter nor has he set a release date. The only information we have is that Apple is considering progress with the Apple TV, a device that many currently considered dead.
