We tested the new FineTrack Smart Finder locators from UGREEN, with The same features as Apple's AirTags but at much more affordable prices and designs that adapt to all needs.
Since the launch of Apple's AirTags, tracking devices have become increasingly popular due to their undeniable usefulness. Recovering your lost keys, wallet, or backpack is priceless, and for a small amount of money and simply with the help of your smartphone, you can do it thanks to these small accessories. Additionally, Apple's Find My network allows us to locate them even without them being near our iPhone, as any Apple device that passes near the tracker will be used to provide its location, all with the maximum privacy the company always offers.
Today we test two new devices launched by UGREEN with two different designs. FineTrack Smart Finder It is a locator tag with a compact, square design, designed to be used with a keychain, or hung from an object such as a backpack. FineTrack Slim Smart Finder It's shaped like a credit card, so you can carry it in your wallet without adding any bulk. With very similar features, we'll share our experience with both.
UGREEN FineTrack Smart Finder
This small tracking tag has a design similar to Apple's AirTag, a little larger and square in shape. Unlike the latter, it has an illuminated LED and a small loop that we can use to attach it to a keychain, without having to buy any extra accessories, as we do with the AirTag. It is only available in gray and has a replaceable 2032 battery inside, the same one used by the AirTag, but while the Apple product only offers one year of battery life, UGREEN promises us two years per battery, which is important.The battery is not easy to remove, an important safety measure to prevent small children from swallowing it.
Su 80dB speaker allows you to locate it whenever you activate it from the Find app from our phone. The sound it emits is on par with that of the AirTag; I haven't noticed much of a difference. In addition to the sound, this FineTrack has an LED that flashes when its search is activated. Its design and features make it perfect for carrying on a keychain, or hanging from our backpack, camera bag, or anywhere else we need it.
UGREEN Slim FineTrack Smart Finder
In this case, we're talking about a credit card-shaped locator. Its size is identical to that of a card, except the thickness, which is equivalent to that of two credit cardsThis slim body includes all the technology needed for search, an 80dB speaker, and a rechargeable battery that lasts a year per charge. Recharging requires a USB cable with UGREEN's proprietary magnetic connector.
It has a hole through which we can pass a small hanger that is included, and in the upper corner we find the metal connector to attach the charging cable. Apart from that, no one would distinguish it from a normal credit card, so it is perfect to place in the card holder of our wallet, without making it noticeable that we're wearing it and without increasing its thickness at all. It's IP68 certified, so we can rest easy if it rains.
Apple Find Network
Both accessories are compatible with Apple's Find My network. Why is this important? In addition to ensuring they work seamlessly with our Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Mac, it also allows you to use the Find My app that comes pre-installed on those products. without having to use other third-party applications or register on any other websiteBut the best part is that this means all Apple devices around the world form a network that allows these accessories to be located, even if we're hundreds or thousands of miles away.
If you lose your keys at home, your phone will still be connected to the tracker's Bluetooth, so you can use the app to make it sound and find it. But what if you lost your keys far from home and no longer have a Bluetooth connection? Or if you left them at another country's airport during your recent trip? Your iPhone can't find them anymore, but the iPhones, iPads, or Macs of the millions of Apple users around the world can. Any device that passes near your keys will send its location so you can locate them. even if you're far away. And if someone finds your keys, their iPhone can display a message you've set up so they can contact you and help you get them back.
Add to the app Search
To add these UGREEN FineTrack devices to this fantastic Find My network, simply open the Find My app on your iPhone with the device nearby. It will automatically detect it, and you can give it a name and icon to identify it in the app. You can share its location with up to five other people, even with airlines if you use it to locate your suitcase. You can play a sound, set a route to get there, and configure notifications so that if you leave the accessory behind, you'll be notified that you've forgotten it so you can return for it.
Editor's opinion
I have several AirTags for myself and my family, and they've been useful on numerous occasions. These new UGREEN FineTrack locators offer everything the AirTags do, except for precise location, which I've honestly never used, and they do it all for a much lower price than AirTags. Based on features, design, and price, it doesn't make sense to buy an AirTag right now when you have competitors like the UGREEN FineTrack Smart Finders available:
