Apple releases tvOS 9.2, an update with major improvements

TvOS 9.2

As promised at the event that ended a while ago, tvOS 9.2 is now available for download, a new version of the operating system for the fourth-generation Apple TV that includes a good group of interesting news. tvOS is, along with iOS 9, the operating system that includes more interesting news, or even more than Apple's mobile operating system. This is understandable, since tvOS is an operating system that is only a few months old and is the one that needs to improve the most. Without going any further, at first we couldn't even use the Remote app to enter text, which, fortunately, has long been possible. Below you have all the news that comes with the latest version of the operating system for Apple TV 4.

Possibility of creating folders

When we install an application on any iOS device (and tvOS is an adapted version of iOS 9 for Apple TV 4), it becomes the latest of all. This has its positive part, since we will always have it located, but it also makes us end up having the home screen very cluttered. If we do not have the possibility to create folders, it is even worse. This has changed with the arrival of iOS 9, as you can see in the previous image. They may create folders just like we can do it in iOS and OS X. Perfect!

As you can see in the following image, when the icons start to shake, we can perform some actions just like in iOS. Pressing the Play / Pause button for one second will appear several options and controls, as you can see in the following image.

App selector as in iOS 9

Something that I can't quite understand is: if they were going to change it, why did they add it as they did? The answer could be that the first version of tvOS arrived in October, but it had been in development for a long time. Until now, the app selector or multitask put the application cards next to each other, something that was familiar to us because it was exactly as we saw them in iOS 8 and iOS 7. From now on we will see these cards as in iOS 9. It is much more visually attractive, but it could be less productive. The ideal would be to be able to see the more letters, the better, something like we see them in iOS Safari.

Ability to use Bluetooth keyboards

When the fourth-generation Apple TV went on sale, writing was a nightmare. Using the Siri Remote to control the system is fine, no one denies that, but having to search for the letters one by one by sliding on a line with the alphabet in is not productive at all. Shortly after we were able to enter the text with the Remote application and from tvOS 9.2 we will be able to use Bluetooth keyboards. Will they create games where we can use a keyboard?

MapKit support

flyover

Or what is the same, for applications that make use of native Apple maps. Like everything that ends in -Kit, this is not something that users can access, but rather tools for the ones developers they can add in their applications, in this case, information from Maps. In other words, from now on we will begin to see applications that make use of Apple Maps in the tvOS App Store.

Siri learns new languages

When Apple TV 4 went on sale, Siri was only available in 8 languages. In the first list there were only languages with a specific pronunciation, as was the case and this has not changed, the Spanish that is most spoken in Spain (no Andalusian accent, for example). On tvOS 9.2, Siri learns the accents of Spanish spoken in the United States and French spoken in Canada.

It is not ruled out that more news will arrive in the final version of tvOS 9.2 but, so far, these are all that have been added.
