Although the latest iPhone models - from the iPhone 7 version - are water resistant or Water Resistant, this does not mean that they are Waterproof. This means that it resists splashing water, but is not resistant to submersion under water. And we say this because both terms can be misleading. The atmospheres (ATM) that they can withstand also come into play, but this is another matter.
With that said, Apple, on devices from 2006 onwards, it included liquid contact indicators on all iPhone and iPod models. That is, if we look back, we could tell you that we would start from one of the first generations of iPod. On the other hand, Apple published at the end of last year 2017, a table in which we could see the situation of these liquid contact indicators or Liquid Contact Indicators (LCI).
Before continuing with this topic, we should review what Apple itself comments on its support website: «[…] Resistance to splashes, water and dust is not permanent and may decrease as a result of regular use . The warranty does not cover liquid damage. »
On the other hand, the uses that are discouraged in the iPhone, even having the IP67 certificate, are the following:
- Swimming or bathing with your iPhone
- Exposing iPhone to high-speed or high-pressure water, for example, in the shower or during water sports such as water skiing, wakeboarding, surfing, jet skiing, etc.
- Using iPhone in a sauna or steam room
- Purposely submerging iPhone in water
- Using the iPhone outside the recommended temperature ranges or in very humid environments
- Dropping the iPhone or exposing it to other types of shocks
- Disassembling the iPhone, including removing the screws
But going back to the topic of indicators, These LCIs are only activated if they come into contact with liquids. Meanwhile, the usual color is white or silver. As soon as they are activated, they will turn a reddish tone. Also, warn you that the warranty is voided in these cases and the repair will become a matter of your pocket.
