Google Maps shows us the traffic status with a widget

Google Maps iOS

We can say many things about Apple's maps, among which is the lack of profit that the company itself is taking out of it. Google Maps has been doing this for many years, but it also has more imagination than Apple when it comes to using its new features. The guys at Google update their maps application practically every month, adding new improvements and functionalities so that users continue to use their platform instead of Apple's, which in recent years has been gaining more followers, thanks to the improvements that those of Cupertino have been adding.

The latest update of the Google maps service offers us a widget that we can place in the notification center, with which inform us about the state of traffic in our area without having to open the application at any time. A very useful new function if we plan to go by car to a nearby place but that due to the traffic may take us longer than usual.

But it is not the only new function that Google has added to its map service, since it also offers us the possibility of search for places on our route when we get the directions, ideal for when we go for a walk and we want to do a bit of tourism or we are not very clear where we want to go.

At the moment Apple still does not offer in Spain or in many Spanish-speaking countries, except Mexico, information on public transport routes announced at WWDC in which he presented iOS 9. This new function is barely available in just over 10 countries and at the moment it seems to be going on for a long time.

What's new in Google Maps update 4.25

  • Check traffic information on your device's home screen with the Nearby Traffic widget.
  • Search for places on your route when you get directions.
  • Error correction.
The application is no longer available in the App Store
