The versatility of the iPhone and its iOS operating system is enhanced with the release of new features year after year. One of the most important conceptual releases for iOS was the picture in picture or PiP (picture in picture) mode. It is an overlay of elements from different apps or system interface with the aim of enhancing multitasking. This function is really important in iPadOS but also in iOS which allowed create a real multitasking between applications. However, some companies have yet to launch PiP mode globally. In fact, YouTube has enabled a trial period for the function, we show you how to activate it.

With picture-in-picture mode, you can watch YouTube videos on a mini-player while using other applications.

How to use it: While watching a video, swipe up (or press the home button) to close the app and watch the content on a mini player.

In June, YouTube announced that it would launch the PiP mode worldwide, but gradually. What's more, announced that the feature would not be a paid feature under the Premium subscription, which is a relief for all those users who are not subscribed to this program. However, two months later the feature has not reached many users and it appears that the company is still delaying the global launch.

Now Youtube allows its Premium users to activate the feature on their iOS devices. To do so, they have to enter the official website of the service within the experimental functions. If you have a subscription, a button will appear to activate the function in the iOS app and you will immediately have PiP mode activated in it. To check it, just open a video and swipe up or press the Home button to access the springboard. At that moment, picture-in-picture mode will be activated and the played video will appear in one corner of the screen. Within the video the controls for play / pause and forward / rewind will appear. To return to YouTube, just enter the app or click on the minimized video.

The function in tests will be available until October 31 for Premium users and only for the Youtube app on iOS. It seems that the PiP mode for iPadOS will have to wait a bit longer.
