Apple has released the second beta version of iOS 27 to developers, build number 24A5370h. This update comes just weeks after the system's initial unveiling at WWDC, serving as the first major revision of software focused on Siri AI, Apple Intelligence, and visual interface refinements. Registered users can now download the package from the software update menu in their iPhone settings.
As is typical with early testing phases, installing this early build is not recommended for primary devices used daily. Testers should be aware of the potential for performance issues, reduced battery life, and compatibility problems with third-party applications. Apple will continue development throughout the summer before the final launch in September.
Improvements to the ecosystem, Apple Wallet, and Siri interaction
One of the main new features is in the Apple Wallet app, which expands its Financial Insights feature to more regions and compatible cards. Currently, I don't have the option to add my accounts or cards in Spain, but the main screen is there. Meanwhile, the "Type with Siri" suggestion now appears natively directly on the virtual keyboard on iPhone and iPad. These additions aim to streamline the user's everyday actions without the need to navigate through complex menus.
Regarding the virtual assistant, initial performance reports indicate faster response times for features using Siri AI technology (where available). Within the Expressive Voice Preview settings, the interface now indicates that controls for adjusting rhythm and expressiveness are coming soon. Optimizing voice processing is key to fulfilling the new operating system's promises of fluidity.
Bug fixes and hardware compatibility
The iPhone Mirroring feature with macOS 27 Golden Gate is significantly more stable, fixing the unexpected crashes present in the first beta and allowing for smoother app resizing. Additionally, the bug that prevented firmware updates for AirPods Max 2 has been resolved. This software update also allows you to manage Apple TV 4K updates remotely from the Home app.
The RCS messaging protocol now supports in-app replies within the Messages app, improving communication with external platforms. While the current beta boasts stability exceeding that of previous years, it's worth noting that Apple Intelligence's advanced features require recent hardware, even though the core system is compatible with iPhone 11 and later models. The official schedule anticipates the arrival of a public beta during the month of July.
