One of the novelties of iOS and iPadOS 14 is the ability to modify the default apps that do their job as email and web browser. Thanks to this we can change the default browser to Chrome or Edge and email to Gmail or Outlook, for example. In this way, iOS and iPadOS go one step further to increase the customization of these types of aspects that are essential for the user. Nevertheless, in the current version There is a bug that resets the modified default apps to those applied by Apple at the factory. That is, if the terminal is restarted, Safari and Mail become the default apps again like browser and mail.
IOS and iPadOS 14 bug modifies default apps by reboot
Many users on Twitter and Reddit add fuel to the fire and claim that this error was planned by Apple. To analyze it we are going to give an example remembering that the apps default by Apple as a web browser and email manager with Safari and Mail respectively. Let's imagine we have an iPad with iPadOS 14 and we have modified the default apps defining Google Chrome as the default browser and Microsoft Outlook as the mail manager.
So far good. If we click on the link, Chrome opens and if we click on any link with a 'mailto', Outlook opens. However, we ran out of battery and our iPad turns off. The error occurs when the device restarts unexpectedly, because the battery runs out or we do an intentional reboot. When the device starts up again, the default applications that we had modified are no longer as we had left them.
In this way, after a restart, the default apps are again Safari and Mail. If the user wants, they can modify them again, but if they restart again, the device will do the same again. It's a pretty awkward mistake if we get used to modifying apps by default. However, we hope that Apple will rectify the error as soon as possible. There are two solutions, that launch iOS 14.0.1 solving this along with other errors or wait for iOS 14.2 whose beta came out this morning for developers.
