This is the new iOS 13 CarPlay

The arrival of iOS 13 marks the first major renovation of CarPlay since Apple launched it. A renewed aesthetic, new configuration options, improvements in the Maps application, in Siri, news in the Music application and Podcasts… There are many changes that are incorporated into CarPlay and that we want to show you in this video.

With all the changes that CarPlay incorporates in this upcoming update, Apple's mobile platform specifically designed for use in the car manages to further widen the differences with the competition, marking the path that Android Auto will surely follow in the near future. Do you want to know the changes? Well, in this video you can see them all.

Map improvements

The split screen is one of the most obvious changes as soon as you connect your iPhone to the car. A screen where we can see Apple Maps, with the instructions to follow on the right side, just above the mini-music or podcast player, and the next appointment on the calendar at the bottom. In this way you won't have to leave maps to change the current playback. But this is something aesthetic that should not cover the improvements that are underneath.

As soon as you have connected your iPhone to the car The destination suggestion will appear based on your calendar appointments. Of course, you should have the appointment added with the location, a custom that I took a while ago and that now makes more sense than ever. In addition, Maps offers you a series of recommendations (home, work, last visited places ...) that make it very easy to mark the destination of your route.

In addition, searches can be done using your voice, asking for a specific place or category, then offering you a series of results in which you can see how far you are, including the TripAdvisor score. The Apple Maps application in CarPlay becomes an excellent alternative to Google Maps or Waze, improving them in many aspects, although still with great deficiencies such as not having radar warnings or speed limits.

Music and Podcasts

But not all the changes remain in Maps, two fundamental applications in CarPlay also suffer considerable aesthetic changes: Music and Podcasts. Both applications are now much more visual, with album and chart covers that enrich the views of the different application menus.

It also changes the appearance of the player, which now shows us a thumbnail of the podcast, list or album that we are listening to. Of course, the useful buttons are kept to advance 30 seconds (and thus skip the advertising of podcasts) or to be able to mark songs as favorites or that you do not like. Navigating Apple Music recommendations or the Podcasts application is now much more visual, being able to more easily identify the lists or your favorite podcasts.

Other improvements

In addition to these changes there are many others, as a new Settings application to be able to activate the “Do not disturb while driving” mode or to activate the dark / light mode automatically. Now Siri is also less instructive, and you can continue to see the navigation map even if you invoke Siri, which now (on some car models) can be invoked using "Hey Siri" without having to press any button.
