WhatsApp has started to roll out one of its most anticipated news: end-to-end encryption on the backup that is stored in iCloud. At the moment only in Beta, and not for everyone, we show you how it works.
If just a few weeks ago the messaging application owned by Facebook launched end-to-end encryption in the messages that are sent and received, now comes another of the novelties announced long ago: the encryption of the backup that is stored in iCloud . In this way, and as the application itself informs us when activating this new functionality, no one will be able to see our messages within the backup we store in the Apple cloud, not Apple itself and not WhatsApp.

This new option has been released to some users of the Beta version of WhatsApp for iOS, and it is expected that it will soon be available in the public version that will be available to everyone. Its configuration is done from within the settings of the application itself, in the "Chats> Backup" section. There appears a new item "End-to-end backup" that will be marked as "No" by default, and that when activated will take us to some configuration screens with a few very simple steps. Basically all we have to do is create a key that will be needed to download that backup when we configure the application on a new device or after we have removed it. If we lost that key, no one could help us recover our backup copy, so be very careful and keep it safe.
Remember that backup that WhatsApp makes in iCloud It is independent of the copy that our iPhone also makes in the Apple cloud. If you want to save space in the cloud, better delete WhatsApp from the copy of the iPhone and leave only the backup that the application makes independently. This way you will not only get more free space in iCloud, but you will also have greater security that the privacy of your conversations is guaranteed.
