Some time after I did it on Android, WhatsApp finally adds the possibility of using "Access keys" or "Passkeys" in its version for iPhone, increasing the security of your account and preventing others from impersonating you.
Although iOS added PassKeys quite some time ago (already in iOS 16), the most common messaging application in this part of the world, WhatsApp, decided to launch this functionality first in its Android version. Now you have decided that it is a good time to add it to the iPhone version, and little by little more users can activate it on their devices. Like everything that WhatsApp adds as new, It doesn't reach everyone at the same time, so if you don't have it yet, you'll have to wait a few days until it reaches you.
What are Access Keys or PassKeys?
It is a more secure form of identification than creating a password, since what you use to protect your account is directly your fingerprint, your face or some other identification system such as security keys. There are no passwords involved that can be leaked, sYour account can only be accessed through your "physical" identification system. It is therefore a much safer method than using your mobile phone number to send an SMS, since anyone who duplicates your SIM (and we have already seen that this is not too complicated) could have access to your account.
The good thing about PassKeys or Access Keys is that sync and save to iCloud, so that you can use them on any device that you have associated with your account, and if you lose your phone, by adding your iCloud account to the new one you will have access to them again. It is therefore a new system for identifying and protecting your accounts that is quite safe, comfortable and that we should all start using in those services that allow it.
How are Access Keys or PassKeys activated?
It's very simple, as long as WhatsApp has added it to your account. You must access WhatsApp Settings, Enter the menu «Account>Passwords» and there click on the button «Create password». You will only have to use your face or your fingerprint to create the access code, nothing else to do. From that moment on, when you activate your WhatsApp account, you will not receive messages on your mobile phone, but you will use your face or fingerprint to identify yourself.
